Pastine Projects is pleased to present Minoan Stories, an exhibition of new work by Jessica Snow, that includes oil pastels on paper created at the residency Château Orquevaux in France. The one-month residency followed a particularly seminal stay at Agia Pelagia, in Crete over the summer where Snow says she “dove deep into the mythical.” Inspired by preclassical art, the geography of Crete, and the ancient myths of the island, her new work unfolds like an an archeological excavation where, for Snow, “meaning is always at play, tugging here tugging there, never quite settling into one thing or another.” The works in Minoan Stories have the appearance of being made by an artist freed to focus on her imagination. Forms and color transcend the restrictions of material, time, and place and take on the mantle of the mythic.
Jessica Snow is an artist, professor, and curator based in San Francisco. She earned a BA from UC Davis and a MFA from Mills College, and she also attended the Sorbonne and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Jessica is adjunct professor in the Studio Art and Art History departments at University of San Francisco. She's represented by Pastine Projects in San Francisco and Ideelart in London, and she’s had several solo shows in the Bay Area, New York, Dallas, and Southern California, including the Riverside Art Museum. She’s been in group shows at the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Crocker Art Museum, Monterey Art Museum and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Internationally Jessica has participated in many group shows in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Finland, Poland, Thailand, Australia, Uruguay, Argentina, and Ukraine, including the Biennale Internationale d'Art Non Objectif in Pont-de-Claix, France.
More than Once, Upon a Time

On December 10, we are thrilled to announce the premiere US screening of More than Once, Upon a Time, a film directed by Paul Morrill and Jessica Snow. The film takes place in Spain and Italy, looping from the future to the past to the present. It explores the sacred nature of creativity and divination, as well as themes of archeology, the poetics of the natural world, and the fluid nature of time. The film is an official selection of the 2022 Immagina Florence International Film Festival.

Pastine Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition of photo-based collages by Kathryn Dunlevie. Meditating on fragments of our shared visual history, Dunlevie creates works that meld the familiar with the extraordinary. Each work depicts a silhouette of a woman whose interior is an amalgam of scavenged images. Often these women step forward with a sense of urgency and purpose, disrupting or activating the space around them. The collaged elements within each body create narrative content suggesting a diverse array of possibilities. Dunlevie challenges us through the silhouettes “to all move forward, piecing together the best garments from our personal histories and creating our own new trajectories with daring authenticity.”
Kathryn Dunlevie is a photography-based artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally. Born in Atlanta, Dunlevie lived in six different states by the time she was 12, and in Paraguay when she was 16. She has a B.A. in fine arts from Rice University and studied art history and film at the University of Paris, painting at California College of the Arts, and photography in Madrid. Dunlevie currently resides in Palo Alto, CA.
Dunlevie has received numerous awards and fellowships, including two Arts Council Silicon Valley Artist Laureate Fellowships. Her work was exhibited at the FotoFest International biennials in Houston from 2002 through 2020, at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China, at Studio Thomas Kellner in Germany, in the United States Art in Embassies Program in Moscow, at Gallery TPW in Toronto and in the United States at San Francisco Camerawork, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery, PhotoAlliance, the Southeast Museum of Photography, Stanford University, the Art Museum of the Americas, and the Institute of Contemporary Art San Jose.
Her work has been reviewed in Spain’s La Fotografia Actual, Korea’s photo +, and in Germany’s Profifoto, as well as in The New York Times, Camerawork: A Journal of Photographic Arts, Photo Metro, Artweek, Artlies, Visual Art Source, and AestheticsToday.blogs.
