Work From the Flat Files

Anne McGuire | Jessica Snow

Pastine Projects is delighted to showcase an excellent selection of artworks curated from our  Flat Files collection where we aim to cultivate a dynamic dialogue between artists and audiences. Within the confines of the Flat Files, we have assembled a treasure trove of artistic brilliance spanning various mediums, styles, and concepts. At Pastine Projects, we are committed to fostering creativity and celebrating the boundless potential of artistic expression. This May, we are featuring the works of Anne McGuire and Jessica Snow.

Jessica Snow's work extends beyond the traditional confines of painting and drawing to seamlessly include film. She is particularly interested in the profound relationship of the natural world, ancient artistic traditions, and architectural forms. Through her evocative and bold compositions, Snow creates a visual lexicon that marries nature, place, and antiquity with the vibrancy of the contemporary. The viewer is transported through a unique landscape of color and form that echos the history of art and culture. Her multi-dimensional approach serves as a conduit for dialogue between the ancient and the modern, offering a glimpse into the timeless essence of human expression.

Anne McGuire's ink and color pencil drawings are paeans to symmetry and symbolism, poetry for the eye. Her latest works on paper are inspired by the art of Achilles G. Rizzoli (1896-1981) the San Francisco draftsman who (in his spare time) created highly detailed architectural “sketches, portrayals, recapturings, and representations” of people such as his mother, father, neighbors, and friends. Like Rizzoli, McGuire locates spirituality in the imaginary.
